About Our Paving Work

Asphalt Paving Terre Haute paves and maintains driveways, rural lanes and commercial lots across Vigo County and the neighboring counties of the Wabash Valley, on both sides of the Illinois line. We handle new blacktop driveways, tar-and-chip lanes, commercial paving and overlays, sealcoating, pothole and crack repair, and parking lot striping.

The Wabash Valley has two kinds of ground, and both are hard on pavement in their own way. Along the river, the soil is floodplain alluvium: fine, slow-draining and prone to standing water. On the uplands east and south of the city, thick windblown silt over old glacial till holds a seasonal water table close to the surface from early winter into spring. Either way, the pavement is only as good as the stone under it and the path water takes off it.

That is why our visits start with a shovel and a level. We look at the soil, measure, check slope, and find out where the driveway meets the road. If the work reaches a city street, a county road or a state highway, we tell you what that connection involves and check the current requirements with whoever controls it. Every dig begins with an Indiana 811 locate request.

Your quote lists removal, base work, surface type and thickness, edging and any sealing or striping, each with a price. Nothing starts until you sign off, and changes are written up before they happen.

Our standards on every job

  • We find and fix soft ground before paving over it.
  • Thickness and base depth are written into the quote.
  • Hot mix is placed only when ground and air are warm enough to compact it.
  • Sealcoat waits until new asphalt has cured.
  • Lot layouts are checked against the 2010 ADA Standards before paint goes down.
  • You are billed for approved work only.
